Ode to Murray Hill, the Best in Showbiz

The world may be going to hell in a handbasket but thank goodness we have Murray Hill!

I’ve known and adored Murray for many years. I’ve seen him on countless live NYC stages, including as our MC at Persisticon (which I co-founded). Not only am I thrilled for — and proud — of my friend, I am over the moon that I get to watch him from my cozy couch. Murray currently stars on three television shows: Bridget Everett’s Somebody Somewhere, Amy Schumer’s Life & Beth, and Paul Feig’s brand-new network show, Welcome to Flatch.

Murray is quick-witted, absofuckinglutely hilarious, lovable, kind-hearted and 100% camp. To me, Murray is his very own love child. Hailing from Boston, he migrated to south to become NYC showbiz royalty, with 1930’s style via 1970’s three-piece suits and a drawn on mustache that looks like it has always been there. Those suits, and his wink-wink playful macho masculinity, remind me of English comedian and actor Benny Hill.

His comedy is self-deprecating and audience-razzing. Hecklers beware: If you’re sitting in the front at a show, you have a target on your head; mouth off and he will fold you into the act repeatedly, like the cheese into a béchamel sauce. The audience is his showbiz oyster.

On stage, he has his audiences either confused, in stitches, or in tears from laughing. On TV, he gets to show us his wide range of acting skills, which we haven’t seen from him until now.

Can  you tell I’m a fan?

It makes me so happy to know that Murray is getting his just desserts, and I’m not just talking about a cupcake (wacka wacka). He’ll say he is wearing multiple pairs of Spanks under his perfectly tailored suits. He isn’t concerned with people understanding him. He’ll say, “I know what you’re thinking, is it a boy? is it a girl?….NEITHER!”

Because he’s just Murray. 100% showbiz!
