WISDOM: Why Your 50s Rule and How To Make Yourself Believe That
By Katie Goodman
I’m sitting here watching the Olympics with a bottle of Advil in one hand and a fairly decent wine in the other, as they talk about how distressingly old the 35-year-old athlete is and what a marvel it is that she can still stand without, you know, her knees breaking or her hair falling out mid-performance, and my snarl is so apparent that my husband asks me what’s wrong.
So I thought it would be a good time to list all the reasons that being in one’s 50s is so freakin’ amazing… lest I forget and this snarl becomes permanent like a facelift gone wrong.
FREE EVENT: Let’s Talk About Grief
Whether you’re working through your own loss or supporting someone else, grief can be messy, lonely — and confusing. As our guest Issa Mas notes, grief certainly isn't what Hollywood makes it out to be, with tidy resolutions.
Join us for this free event, Feb. 28th as Margit chats with author Issa Mas about managing grief through humor, vulnerability, and, as she puts it, "a subtly Buddhist framework." Issa’s new book, Grief Thoughts: Brief Anecdotes About Profound Loss, seeks to share the ways in which grieving (while excruciating), can bring profound emotional and psychological realizations, familial insights, and ultimately, personal growth, even when the process is messy.

What makes you a grown-ass lady?
Women over 40 are awesome, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Women need to know that getting older does not mean becoming insignificant. We have to boldly fight ageism and rewrite the rules.
On the nightstand: I always have a glass of water and a book.
Can't stop/won't stop: Advocating for women's basic health needs.
Jam of the minute: I don't understand this question, I am such a boomer. If you really mean "jam" then I am going to say ginger marmalade, but I know you mean something else. Music, hobbies....? LOL
Thing I miss: British banter.
'80s crush: Bruce Dickinson, lead singer from Iron Maiden. And Rob Andrew ex-England Rugby captain.
Current crush: I wouldn't kick Idris Elba out of bed.
Latest fav find: Slugging! It's a skincare technique that is wonderful.
Last thing you lost: My estrogen.
Best thing that happened recently: Moving back to Canada.
Looking forward to: Holidays with my family. I really enjoy the simple things these days.
Keep up the good fight, TueNighters!
