STORY: A Gyno Visit Goes to the Dogs
By Liz Alterman
I should’ve changed doctors sooner. Each time I sat in the waiting room surrounded by pregnant women and postpartum moms and their newborns, I reminded myself it was time to find a new gynecologist.
Squarely in my menopause years, I didn’t need a doctor who was also an obstetrician, especially not one in high demand. But this physician — let’s call her Dr. J — while quirky, had a stellar reputation. She’d always been attentive, vigilant. She’d discovered barely-detectable nodules on my thyroid.
TUENIGHT 10: Verun Marie Moring, TikTok Star
Age: 46.
Basic bio: We first spotted Verun Marie Moring on her addictive TikTok handle @MarieBustinMoves where her Gen-X (and multi-generational) old school dances have gone viral. Try not to bust a smile at her “Running Man.” This dancing mom of six (and grandmother to four) is an accountant by day and also owns a dance studio in Georgia called A Time to Dance Studio. As she likes to say, “I spread joy thru dance and finance.”
Beyond the bio: “I have gained clarity about life and womanhood in my 40s. The hot flashes caught me the most off guard. It’s like, why don’t our mothers and aunties prepare us for this difficult process? I love being a grandma because it’s another chance to be more patient and forgiving towards (my kids’) kids. I wasn’t the perfect parent but now I have a chance to be the perfect grandparent.”
What makes you a grown-ass lady? Caring about people other than myself, especially other women. And making my life count and living unapologetically after raising all my babies.
Here’s her TueNight 10:
On the nightstand: My phone charger and my first book, What’s The Best That Can Happen?
Can't stop/won't stop: Dancing!
Jam of the minute: Treat ‘Em Right by Chubb Rock, of course!
Thing I miss: Old school and how close families were.
'80s crush: Prince.
Current crush: My grandson.
Latest fav find: This extra cute jumpsuit that I went viral in.
Last thing you lost: Wig cap.
Best thing that happened recently: I’m on an NBC dance show with Shakira called Dancing with Myself.
Looking forward to: Touring the U.S. all summer and meeting my supporters.
Have a whale of a week, TueNighters!
Always chock full of fun and new insights! Thank you!
