Black History Month may be over, but it’s never too late to appreciate Queen and Slim costume designer Shiona Turini’s inspired Barbie collection. And now it’s Women’s History Month, so here’s a little history on how that got started. A New York city ER doctor weighs in on coronavirus, COVID-19. Need some comfort food after that? Settle in for the last few weeks of winter, invite some friends over and impress them with this Mushroom Bourguignon. If you’re in the mood for a good cathartic cry, this Pixar short film about the unlikely friendship between a Pit Bull and kitten should do the trick. Former Gawker writer, Emily Gould, looks back at her greatest moment of shame. An excellent appreciation of how there’s much to learn from younger generations. Obsessed: HiBAR Shampoo + Conditioner
(Image via HiBAR)
I’ve been using DevaCurl No Poo and One Condition for nearly 15 years, but, much to the curly girl community’s horror, over the past few months there has been major online controversy claiming the formula had changed and was causing hair loss and itchy scalp. Egads!
While I haven’t thrown away my DevaCurl products yet, I did decide to try something new to see if the amount of hair that clogged the drain after every shower would decrease. At the same time, Margit posted in TueNighters asking everyone about their bath products of choice, which in part prompted a conversation about all the plastic involved in the packaging. So, when I came upon the HiBAR Shampoo and Conditioner on my local store shelves, I was intrigued.
Let me cut to the chase...I love this stuff! There are three varieties, and I went for the Volumizing combo, since I have pretty fine hair. It definitely took a little getting used to, but I quickly got the hang of it, and love how the shampoo works into a nice lather. The whole line is good for color treated hair, and doesn't contain sulfates, silicones or parabens. I swear to you, my hair really does look healthier after I blow it dry, even before I add a little Argan oil to the ends. The best part is that they come in this cute cardboard packaging that is compostable, so a double score for the environment. They have great advice on using the products on their website, including how to travel with them (roll them up in a hand towel and put them right in with your clothes — it’s that easy). Highly recommend, if you’re looking to change things up.

(Photo credit: Alexis Buryk / City Love Photography)
Age: 40
Quick Bio: Babita jets around the world as a humanitarian photographer and Executive Director of KIOO Project, a nonprofit that changes gender dynamics by teaching photography to girls who then teach boys. Her upcoming book, Breaking Out in Prison, introduces you to 15 men who were locked out of society long before they were locked up.
Beyond the Bio: "My life at 40 looks nothing like I thought it would when I was 22. Starting a nonprofit, writing a book, my travel adventures have all landed in my lap while I was making myself crazy over ridiculous goals that were a waste of my time and energy. I finally decided to let the universe have its way while I stepped out of its way."

MARCH: EXPLORE
This month we're all about exploring. And not just new landscapes out there in the great, wide world, but our internal landscapes, too, and how travel can sometimes shift and change those in surprising ways.
Get Lost: The Scary, Awesome, Wonder of Midlife Travel
By Jenny Douglas
"It turns out I actually liked being uncomfortable, a little lost, a little scared — because what travels along with those feelings is also wonder and openness and an intoxicating anticipation of surprises I wouldn’t even be able to imagine."
