PHOTOS: Last Week’s “Pay Me” Event
By Margit Detweiler
It had been almost two years. OK, a year and a half since we held our last TueNight Live, since the “before times” — and it was SO good. Last week, we saw — and hugged — some of you in person (fully-vaxxed, of course) and many of you on the livestream. Five storytellers, and members of the audience, shared their own stories on pay, ageism and equity as we noshed and sipped and truly enjoyed being around humans.
OBSESSED: ‘80s Jordache Jeans Commercials
By Margaret Crandall
Sing along with me: “You’ve got the look I want to know better. You’ve got the look that’s all together. Working, playing, day or night; Jordache has the fit that’s right. The Jordache look!”
The jingle was catchy, right? But my GOD, the TV ads have not aged well. Take a cringe-walk with me down memory lane, but be warned: Once you go down this rabbit hole, there’s no telling when you will come back out of it.
STORY: The Luxury of Not Putting Money First
By Tanzina Vega
“While I’ve never been part of a dystopian horror show like Squid Game (debtors have never tried to assassinate me), I grew up with just enough money to get by, which provoked an intense fear of the precarity of life, an exhausting “what if?” that never ends. What if I run out of money? What if I end up homeless? What if I can’t find a good job? and on and on.”
