Your Age: 71
Basic bio: Robin owns a casting company, Modernager Casting, for diverse women age 40+. She lives with her photographer husband in a landmarked loft building, Tin Pan Alley, in the Flower District in Manhattan. She also works with women over 40 who want to become commercial models. Robin has a penchant for street casting and discovering new faces.
Beyond the bio: I am a classic late bloomer. To me it was perfectly normal to switch gears at 50 and land my dream job. From that point on, my life began to take shape and continues to evolve.
What makes you a grown-ass lady? Being comfortable in my decision not to have children.
Here’s her TueNight 10 :
On the nightstand: Roxane Gay’s incredible memoir, Hunger. First I listened to the audiobook and then I needed to read her written words.
What I’m listening to: Podcasts. While running, while cleaning, while shopping. I particularly loved listening to Wiser Than Me, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
‘80s crush/current crush: I would have to say Chrissie Hynde throughout every decade
Latest fave find: Banana Runtz weed
What was your first job: In 1971 I moved into Manhattan. My first job was at the first restaurant to open in Soho (besides Fanelli’s) called Food. It was created by and for artists. Groundbreaking even today. Philip Glass worked there. I babysat his kids. Back then, Soho was a ghost town. Lofts were rocking into the wee hours with live bands. If Sylvia Miles didn't show up it wasn’t a party.
How do you celebrate your birthday: Any restaurant where the waiters don’t sing Happy Birthday.
What are you most proud of: Working with women of diversity, aged 40+, who want to become commercial models. As Victoria Williams sang, “Hey, do you want to come out and play the game?” It’s never too late.
Is there anything you’d like a do-over for in life: Hating myself as a child because I didn’t look like Cheryl Tiegs.
Who has influenced you the most: My husband. I was very closed emotionally when we met. He taught me how to express my feelings instead of keeping everything bottled up. He created a monster.
What are you looking forward to: Dying in my sleep.
So... am writing this mute from my hospital bed, high on drugs, but now that we are off strike... our next series needs all women who can play 38-48 and we keep hearing sh*t like... "yeah, that's a weird age to cast, can't help you..." so I LOVE that she specializes in this demo. Our EP did Angels in America for HBO. Am going to ping him as soon as I am less groggy. Who knows? Maybe something can work?
