Judy Bloom Forever + the illuminating saga of Afeni & Tupac Shakur + why we'll follow Bridget Everett anywhere...
Hey there, TueNighters! As you know, the TueNight team publishes an ah-mazing list of movie releases, series drops, and tv shows in our weekly TueDo List newsletter.
Here in the Weekend Watch, we’re able to take a deeper dive into our recommendations and chat a little more about what we’re watching — LET’S GO!
Here are this week’s picks:
Somebody Somewhere | Season 2 (HBO): The series follows Sam (played by TueNight fave Bridget Everett), a true Kansan on the surface, but, beneath it all, struggling to fit the hometown mold. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam's saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don't fit in but don't give up, showing that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible. Anywhere. Somewhere. Season 2 reminds us that families are hard, even the fun ones.
Judy Blume Forever (Amazon Prime Video): With humor, sensitivity, and a healthy dose of adolescent cringe, JUDY BLUME FOREVER tells the story of the trail-blazing author's radical honesty changed the way millions of adolescent readers understood themselves, their sexuality, and what it meant to grow up.
Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni & Tupac Shakur (FX): A deeply personal five-part series that defies the conventions of traditional documentary storytelling to share an illuminating saga of mother and son, Afeni and Tupac Shakur. Afeni Shakur was a revolutionary, feminist leader in the Black Panther Party during the 1970s. While Tupac became known as one of the greatest rap artists of all time, a political visionary, and a philosopher.
The Diplomat (Netflix): Keri Russell stars as Kate Wyler, a career diplomat who lands a high-profile job she neither wants nor believes she is suited for. Just as she was about to head to Afghanistan, the United States government enlists her to serve as the US ambassador to the United Kingdom in the midst of an international crisis. It’s a role that has tectonic implications for her marriage.
I’m looking forward to Mrs. Davis on Peacock. I love a good conspiracy theory story that involved the Vatican
FINALLY! Seems like the time has arrived, finally, for Somebody, Somewhere! Both stars have appeared on Kimmel with more appearances to come I’m sure. 👏🏻👏🏻 Also Extrapolations on AppleTV. I can’t get enough. Sure the message hits you over the head but the series is beautifully shot & imaginative. Hit me some more, please.
