Weekend Watch: June 30, 2023
Hey Siri...delete contacts, for real + bachelorette's sweet revenge + monster hunter steps down but no retirement for the man with the hat and whip...
Hey there, TueNighters! As you know, the TueNight team publishes an ah-mazing list of movie releases, series drops, and tv shows in our weekly TueDo List newsletter.
Here in the Weekend Watch, we’re able to take a deeper dive into our recommendations and chat a little more about what we’re watching — LET’S GO!
Here are this week’s picks:
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (Theaters): After years of anticipation, Lucasfilm is bringing another Indiana Jones adventure to the big screen, 80-year-old Harrison Ford returns as our favorite onscreen archaeologist and embarks (however begrudgingly and more than a bit curmudgeonly, IRL) on one final adventure.
Finding himself in a new era, approaching retirement, Indy wrestles with fitting into a world that seems to have outgrown him. But as the tentacles of an all-too-familiar evil return in the form of an old rival, Indy must don his hat and pick up his whip once more to make sure an ancient and powerful artifact doesn't fall into the wrong hands.
The Bachelorette | Season 20 (ABC, Hulu): After two decades and thousands of roses, the dating competition is officially back and word on the street is fans can definitely expect a lot of romance and tons of drama.
The Bachelorette for this season is 27-year-old child and family therapist from Georgia, Charity Lawson, who got her Bachelor Nation start when she placed fourth in Zach Shallcross' season of The Bachelor. This time, it’s her turn and she’s got the confidence of knowing what she deserves.
Hijack (Apple TV): A high-octane and super intense thriller that follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven-hour journey from Dubai to London, and authorities on the ground scramble for answers.
SAG Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Idris Elba executive produced the series and stars as Sam Nelson, an accomplished corporate negotiator who needs to step up and use all his guile to try and save the lives of the passengers — but, his high-risk strategy could be his undoing.
Delete (Netflix): Ever secretly wished you could delete someone from your life? In this Thai thriller, it's entirely possible — with a mobile phone that can make people disappear. And when it falls into the hands of people, who are having complicated relationships and hiding secrets, they will have to decide whom they want to delete from their lives.
A phone that has the ability to delete people from existence? If only it was that simple, right? Who should stay? Who should be gone? And who calls the shot? This series sounds creepy AF!
The Witcher | Season 3 (Netflix): Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series and game adaptations, the series has become one of Netflix's most beloved shows. The first two seasons have (finally) united the three main characters; Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter a.k.a. The Witcher (Henry Cavill), sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), and Crown Princess Ciri (Freya Allan).
Season 3 will explore more of the “found family” dynamic between Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri. However, their domestic life will be interrupted when Geralt goes after the fire mage Rience (Sam Woolf).
ICYMI: Henry Cavill’s fans will still have one more season before Liam Hemsworth takes over as The Witcher in Season 4. 👀
I saw the new Indiana Jones last night. I loved it! For reference, I hated the fourth movie and went into this one with skepticism. However, it lived up to the fun of the first movie. I still think Harrison Ford looks like a terrible kisser. (I’ve thought that since Witness!)
