Ok, while I, too, am on the quest for denim perfection here are some that I've found that I like:

* Madewell's wide leg and vintage both have a high waist and non-skinny legs. I'm always a fan of their jeans. https://www.madewell.com/womens/jeans/wide-leg-jeans?intcmp=%27denim-vinav_2_wideleg

* The Good American good curve jeans are pretty great: https://www.goodamerican.com/products/good-curve-straight-blue858

*While I typically always recommend Universal Standard denim (Ive been wearing their Seine jeans, albeit skinny, for years) I feel like they haven't yet nailed the high-waist straight leg/ wide leg yet

I'm sorry, I don't have links, because believe it or not, I bought these IRL! But the "vintage bootcut" jeans at Banana Republic fit great, with the perfect amount of stretch, and also the wide leg Rag & Bone jeans fit great, too. The trick, for me, is to buy bootcut/flare leg/or wide leg hem, which are more in style than straight leg or skinny (and I think look super cute, too), BUT to stick to mid-rise waist, not high-waist. I know GenZ wears high-waist, but imo they are not flattering if you have any sort of a meno-pot, and for me they are not comfortable, either. Even my college-age daughter has come around. Recently she said to me, "Mom, you know that mid-rise waist you always wear? It's coming back in style. And I think it looks better than high-waist, too." Gen X for the win ... again!

Seconding that Madewell is the place to go, and if you can go into the store, they truly help you!

I've found a couple of pairs at Old Navy that are quite comfy. High-Waisted Wow Jeans in Straight and Slim feel like a transition width - not skinny jean but not super wide. I did buy a pair of (mid-rise) wide legs from them too on a whim; they make me giggle when I wear them

Also like Madewell, but I think Anthropologie has really been improving their jeans game lately (for a while there, not so much). I'm also a fan of Zara's marine style jean too, and those are super affordable (especially used on Poshmark, if you know your measurements).
