Hey there, TueNighters! As you all know, the TueNight team compiles a fantastic list of movie releases, series drops, and TV shows in our weekly TueDo List newsletter.
Here in the Weekend Watch, we get to dive even deeper into our recommendations and chat about what we're watching — ready? Let's do this!
Here are this week’s picks:
The Great British Baking Show: The Professionals, Season 7 (Netflix): Yet another British-born spin-off of the beloved Bake Off; professional pastry chefs from top hotels, restaurants, and businesses around the UK compete as teams in a series of baking challenges. The chefs face two days of testing challenges, judged by world-class pâtissier experts Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden.
Fun fact: Fans will recognize Liam Charles (pictured: top center) as a contestant from Season 8 of TGBBO.
Paradise (Netflix): Trade your life for money. In the not-too-distant future, a method of transferring years of your life from one person to another has changed the world forever and turned biotech start-up AEON into a billion-dollar pharmaceutical company.
This German sci-fi thriller has a very Black Mirror-style premise: a man sees the dark side of the time-manipulating biotech company he works for when a crushing debt forces his wife to give up 40 years of her own life.
Haunted Mansion (Theaters): It’s been two decades since Eddie Murphy starred in Haunted Mansion so Walt Disney Studios has decided to remake the movie with a fresh cast of actors. Based on the Disney World ride of the same name, it follows the story of a single mother and her son who move into a haunted mansion. As the plot unfolds, the mother decides to seek help from a team of paranormal experts to deal with the spirits.
The horror-comedy boasts a notable ensemble of actors, including LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, and Jared Leto. Additionally, Jamie Lee Curtis makes an appearance as the iconic Madame Leota.
Sympathy For The Devil (Theaters): After being forced to drive a mysterious passenger (Nicolas Cage) at gunpoint, a man (Joel Kinnaman) finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse where it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems.
Critics Consensus: Nicolas Cage, being Nicolas Cage, playing the passenger from hell, ‘nuf said.
Nothing Compares: the award-winning biopic is a moving look at Sinéad O'Connor's remarkable life and career. It can be streamed on Paramount+ and can also be accessed on Hulu and Amazon Prime Video with a Showtime add-on subscription, or viewed on Vudu and Sling.
As we remember Sinéad O'Connor and continue to honor her legacy, we'd love for you to join us in paying tribute to this fearless icon, here.
