Gen-X Approved Round-Up! Summer & Skin Edition
We've crowdsourced your favorite finds and here's what made the cut...
We started Gen-X Approved about four months ago and it quickly became one of our favorite features — mostly because it’s all about YOU and your tips and advice.
Now that we’re heading into summer, we thought this would be a great time to round up a few of your favorite picks — join us as we dive into the collective wisdom of our TueNighters community and uncover the gems that have garnered the #GenXApproved stamp of approval.
Flawless Coverage: Foundation That Won't Look Cakey
Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint — natural, very light, and comes in 12 super sheer shades that adapt across skin tones for skin that still looks like skin. TueNighter Angela B. swears by it saying, “It doesn't give that white cast (esp. bad on brown skin!).”
Laura Mercier — Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer is TueNighter Jenny D.’s unabashed skincare crush: “It goes on light and makes my face feel all dewy. Highly recommend!”
Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 — is a big “YES!” for TueNighter Kimberly B: “The coverage is very even and not heavy, and I love the glowy finish. I also have their True Serum Skin Foundation which is more matte and I like that too. I think their products are very good on over 40 skin.”
Comfy and Chic: Walking Shoes for the Fashion-Forward Traveler
Wool Runners by Allbirds: TueNighter Wendy bought a pair for her New Orleans trip and walked and walked and walked and walked: “They are also a B corporation! They are cute enough to not scream tourist to me and they are my favorites.”
Ecco Shoes: TueNighter Nariah tells us Ecco shoes makes a cute sneaker with strong support, and Jessica A. seconds that recommendation: “I didn't have to break these in and I can easily wear them on long days of walking around or traveling. Plus they're easy to dress up or down. I've worn them with everything from dresses to jeans.”
Vivaia: Our dear fashionista pal Stacy London chimed in with this recco and we adore these flats in green — the color of the summer!
Vionic Shoes: This is one of Margit’s faves: “I am a fan of Vionic shoes which come in loads of styles. I have a great pair of sparkly silver flats that are the best for fancy events.”
Dive in with Confidence: Full Coverage Swimsuits that Still Look Sexy
Summersault: also recommended by Margit, the brand believes fashion and function should always play well together, packing for a trip should be stress-free, and that comfortable doesn't have to mean underdressed — we just love that!
Lands End: is a go-to for TueNighter Tracy D. as per her recommendation via Insta: “They always have suits with good support-I’m a 38DD-and stylish, but not too bare or dowdy.”
Swim Suits for All: our social media editor Liz believes they are one of the most inclusive brands in the market and is totally digging their swim dresses: “They’re super cute and the crocheted fabric speaks to my inner hippie.”
Embrace Natural: Switching to Natural Deodorants
Each & Every — Rachel B. loves them: “It goes on super smoothy and feels light, for lack of a better word, but also like it's doing its job.”
Pit Liquor — re-invented deodorant by pairing the natural scents with whiskey and vodka, and their story is pretty cool, too. TueNighter Janet R. tells us she hasn’t had any problems: “I think the alcohol helps kill the odor.”
Claudalie — TueNighter Alison T. recommends their Vinofresh Natural Stick Deodorant; it’s made up of 98% natural origin ingredients and is guaranteed aluminum-free, alcohol-free, silicone-free, and baking soda-free.
Weekend Getaway Essential: Best Small Travel Bag
Everlane — TueNighter Kimberly B. loves their Renew Transit Weekender: “It’s lightweight and durable, and it has lots of room and pockets. Works well as plane carryon too.”
TOBIQ Duffle Bag — TueNighter Joanna M. bought one for her daughter and she loves it: “It's got lots of zippered compartments and can be carried or worn as a backpack. A small business, they donate a portion of each sale to helping cancer patients travel for treatment.”
Kipling — TueNighter Lauren L. tells us she has the same Kipling duffel bag her parents bought her when she graduated from college: “It's soft, lightweight, and roomy, which makes it perfect for car trips. (I prefer rolly suitcases for planes & trains!).”
